The newest member of The Eco Floor Store is creating quite a stir! Our most daring eco-friendly surface to date, olli architectural wall panels by Ollitecture were featured in BC Business.ca.
Olli panels are made from upcycled cut-offs of Rayne Longboards products, the world-famous North Vancouver-based manufacturer of skateboards. The wall panels are made from sustainably harvested and rapidly renewable bamboo veneers which are covered with custom prints with cool names such as Fish Pimp, Hellcat and Vice City. The backing is an easy to install DIY ‘peel and stick’ material that allows the panels to be quickly installed to virtually any interior wall surface.
Graham Burke, owner and founder of Rayne Longboards, estimates that Ollitecture will divert up to 70% of the company’s waste from landfills. Now that’s the kind of eco-friendly fact we love!
But the awesomeness of this wall covering doesn’t end there!
Graham partnered with Tradeworks Training Society, a Skills Canada funded program that helps marginalized youth deal with their social issues while teaching them carpentry skills and eventually transitioning them into the workforce, to fabricate the product. Not only does Ollitecture help as-risk youth from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, but they will also help recipients of the Sauder Africa Initiative, a UBC Sauder School of Business program that helps youth in Kenya start their own business.
Entrepreneurial creativity + environmental sustainability + social stewardship = Ollitecture.
